Fire Risk International
Rational Designs & Deemed to Satisfy Rules
The National Building Regulations and Standards Act, Act 103 of 1977, and in particular SANS 10400, Part T, provides for the implementation of a Rational Design solution to the fire risks posed by some buildings. In many cases older buildings are being re-purposed for uses which they have not originally been designed for. As a result there is often a heightened level of risk that is not acceptable to insurers without some risk mediation measures being implemented.
A Rational Design is an engineered solution to a risk that is acceptable to the insurer and the local authority. It is NOT a measure purely implemented to reduce the costs of installing measures that are in full compliance with SANS 10400 Part T. It is an alternative solution designed to provide the same level of risk reduction and safety. This allows for innovative approaches to fire risk management in buildings, while still being fully compliant with legislation and relevant local by-laws. In most cases it is a consultative process where advice and input is taken from the client, the broker, the insurer and the local authority.
Fire Risk International has a track record of successful implementation of Rational Design Solutions to a number of clients. We have produced legally compliant and cost effective solutions to some very intricate and difficult problems.
